Being too spontaneous sometimes is not a good idea, but it brings a bunch of new memories and experiences.
I've been always dreaming to go to Provence in June/July when the beautiful lavender fields are blooming and before they get cut. I was not sure if I will go this year, but my boyfriend knew how much I wanted to visit it and told me just one day before our trip to pack my stuff because we are leaving on the next day to Provence. It wasn't planned, so we had to do our plan and book everything on the go.
I got excited and overpacked as usual. In the morning before to leave, I checked for hotels for the first evening and found one in Saint-Rémy de Provence. Anyway, we booked it a bit before arriving there. #adventureseekers
We left #Switzerland by car late in the afternoon and got into a bit of traffic jam, but it was bearable. Before going to our hotel, we passed by #Valence to have dinner. Finally arrived to our home for the night after midnight and woke up early in the morning. The reason - we had a lot to do and see in the next 3 days.
DAY 1
A quick 20 minutes morning pool time in #SaintRémyDeProvence was a good start of the day. After we had breakfast and visit of the village. It is very cute, but we didn't want to stay there long.
Next stop was by an amazing view of Château des Baux de Provence. Before climbing to the castle we took a few pictures close to an olive plantation with a view of the château. This place was honestly so beautiful - #LesBeaux is a must-visit when in Provence. The day was too hot and it was so difficult to spend a lot of time under the sun, especially when the place is like a snakes nest - too many rocks up and not enough shadow.
After surviving the heat up there, we passed by #Venasque - another beautiful place, which is not too touristy, or at least it wasn't by the time we spent there.
We were starving, but were almost too late for lunch, because the restaurants in France are usually closing at 2 pm. We planned to eat in #Avignon, so we had to rush. We went to a Michelin restaurant called 'Le gôut du jour', but unfortunately had to take only a main dish, because of the closing times. Anyway - it was so yummy...
The day, in general, was insane. We succeeded to visit so many places in one day and the car was my closet as I was changing clothes before each place.
After Avignon, we went to #AbbayeNotreDamedeSénanque, which is a beautiful active monastery where the monks still live and gather together seven times per day in the abbey church to pray. In front of the Abbey, there are endless lavender fields. They are closed to visitors, but it's lovely to see this view on the side while walking to the monastery.
This unique place is near one of the most beautiful and picturesque Provence villages - #Gordes. This village is located on a hill and the view from the road is breathtaking. Another must-visit, even though this part of France should be discovered centimetre by centimetre and nothing should be missed. I am in love with all the places we've seen there.
The last place we went to before to go to my dream lavender fields was #Roussillon. Roussillon is famous for its ochre cliffs and breathtaking natural colours. This place is like drawn by an artist. Absolutely worth a visit.
We were so amazed by the rest, that we had to hurry to be in #Valensole on time for the sunset. This is the best place to take some beautiful pictures where the magical lavender and sunflower fields meet. We succeded to get there on time and feel the nature and its power. The sunset and the fields were one of the most beautiful things seen in my life - all I needed at that moment was at the same place, at the same time.
We took our pictures, got bitten by some insects and went happily back to the car to look for a place to overnight. It was 10 pm and nothing online was available in this area, so we decided to go further and ask there. We found and reserved the only hotel which showed that has a free room in Marseille, but after doing the whole way to this hotel, finally, it turned out that it was a system mistake.
We did the impossible to find a hotel or Airbnb, but it was not meant to be and as you can guess, we slept in the car in #Cassis. Actually, a fun experience and a lesson for us (which we did not learn and did a second last-minute trip to Italy one week ago) :D.
DAY 2
After the 5-star car sleeping experience, which was honestly better than expected, we woke up at 8 am (this is also a good sign that we were comfortable lol). Then we went to the harbour of Cassis to have breakfast. Not showered, but motivated to explore we changed and went for as my boyfriend called it 'easy hike' to the Calanques of Cassis. Well, I wasn't prepared for a hike - only for a fashion show and beach life eventually, so I had to wear my flip-flops and to do a 5-6 hours long dream adventure... Well, the hike was not easy for this footwear and by this temperature. After finishing our supplies of water and getting slightly lost as we took another ''faster'' ways, I felt in a survivor mode. But look at that view - it was worth every second of struggle.
After we 'survived' to the car, we decided to take it easy the next day and to go to #SaintTropez. Again there was not a big choice of hotels, but we found one with a perfect location.
You can imagine that the first thing I did in the hotel was to take a loooooong shower. I'm sorry for the wasted water, but I never felt so dirty in my life and needed to wash it out. I felt like a newborn after and ready for some fine dining.
DAY 3
Beach time... Finally! Well deserved relaxation. We went to the sea, enjoyed the water and the sea breeze and then we changed the place for lunch at #NikkiBeach and stayed there until late afternoon, so we had time to get some energy before the drive back home.
