GENERAL INFORMATION

The Seychelles islands were first settled by the French in the 18th century, who established a colony there. The British later gained control of the Seychelles in the early 19th century, and it remained a British colony until it gained independence in 1976. Today, the Seychelles is known for its stunning natural beauty and is a popular tourist destination.

Location: The Seychelles is an archipelago located in the Indian Ocean, off the eastern coast of Africa. It is situated northeast of Madagascar and about 1,600 kilometers (994 miles) east of mainland Africa. The country does not share land borders with any other country, as it is made up of islands. However, it is geographically close to several countries and territories. To the northwest, the Seychelles is relatively close to the Comoros and Mayotte. To the southwest, it is near the French overseas territory of Réunion. Additionally, the Seychelles is located in proximity to the Maldives and Mauritius.

Etymology: The name "Seychelles" is believed to have originated from the French explorer Jean Moreau de Séchelles, who was the first to mention the islands in 1756. However, it is also possible that the name is derived from the Arabic word "Sahal," meaning "clear" or "bright," which could refer to the pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters of the archipelago. Another theory suggests that the name may have come from the Portuguese word "seicheles," meaning "shells," as the islands are known for their abundance of seashells.

Size: It consists of 115 islands, with a total land area of 459 km²

Capital: Victoria, located on the largest island of the archipelago, Mahé

Population: 107,660 (2023) – The population of Seychelles is relatively small, the majority of which resides on the main island of Mahé. The population of Seychelles is diverse, with people of African, European, and Asian descent. The country has experienced steady population growth over the years, driven by factors such as natural increase and immigration.

It is a French-based Creole language that has evolved over time and incorporates elements from various African, Malagasy, and Indian languages.

The fishing industry, in particular, thrives due to the country's vast Exclusive Economic Zone, making Seychelles a hub for tuna fishing and seafood exports.

The country has developed a robust financial services sector, including offshore banking and financial services, attracting international investors and contributing to its economic growth.

Anse Source d'Argent, La Digue

Best time to visit: The best time to visit the Seychelles is during the months of April, May, June, October, and November. During these months, the weather is generally warm and pleasant, with lower humidity and less rainfall than at other times of the year. The sea is also calm, making it ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and diving. However, it's important to note that the Seychelles have a year-round tropical climate, so you can still enjoy the islands' beauty outside of these months.

What to pack: It's essential to consider the tropical climate and the activities you plan to engage in. Here are some critical items to pack:

- Lightweight and breathable clothing: Pack lightweight, loose-fitting clothes made from breathable fabrics like cotton or linen. Opt for shorts, t-shirts, sundresses, and skirts to stay cool in the warm weather.

- Swimwear: Remember to pack your swimsuits or trunks, as the Seychelles is known for its stunning beaches and crystal-clear waters. You'll have plenty of opportunities to swim, snorkel, or relax by the beach.

- Sun protection: The sun in the Seychelles can be intense, so pack sunscreen with a high SPF, a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and a lightweight cover-up or sarong to protect yourself from the sun's rays.

- Insect repellent

- Comfortable footwear: Pack comfortable walking shoes or sandals for exploring the islands. If you plan hiking or engage in water activities, consider packing water shoes or reef-safe sandals.

- Light rain jacket or umbrella: Although the Seychelles have a tropical climate, occasional rain showers can occur. Pack a light rain jacket or a compact umbrella to stay dry during unexpected showers.

- Travel adapter: The Seychelles uses Type G electrical outlets, so make sure to pack a travel adapter if your devices have different plug types.

- Medications and toiletries

Madame Zabre Beach, Desroches

Photography – here are some tips to keep in mind:

- Golden Hour: Take advantage of the soft, warm light during the golden hour, which occurs during the first hour after sunrise and the last hour before sunset. This lighting will enhance the colors and create a magical atmosphere in your photos.

- Beaches and Coastlines: The Seychelles is renowned for its stunning beaches and coastlines. Experiment with different angles and perspectives to capture the turquoise waters, white sand, and unique rock formations. Incorporate elements like palm trees or local boats to add interest to your compositions.

- Underwater Photography: The Seychelles offers incredible opportunities for underwater photography. Consider investing in a waterproof camera or housing to capture the vibrant marine life, coral reefs, and clear waters. Snorkeling and diving excursions will provide you with unforgettable photo opportunities.

- Wildlife and Nature: The Seychelles is home to diverse flora and fauna. Watch for unique bird species, giant tortoises, and exotic plants. Be patient and observe quietly to capture natural behaviors and expressions.

- Local Culture: Engage with the local culture and capture the essence of Seychellois life. Visit local markets, festivals, and villages to document the vibrant colors, traditional clothing, and friendly faces. Always ask for permission before photographing people.

- Composition and Framing: Consider composition techniques such as the rule of thirds, leading lines, and symmetry. Utilize natural elements like palm trees, rocks, or archways to frame your subjects and add depth to your images.

- Weather and Reflections: Take advantage of rainy days or after rain showers to capture reflections on the ground or in puddles. This can add a unique and artistic touch to your photos.

- Drone Photography: If you can access a drone, the Seychelles offers breathtaking aerial perspectives. Familiarize yourself with local regulations and fly responsibly to capture stunning panoramic views of the islands and coastlines.

Anse Major, Mahé

Drones: To ensure compliance with drone regulations in Seychelles, media participants must register their drones and apply for flight authorizations through the SCAA (Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority) website at https://www.scaa.sc/dronesdb/. Prior drone flight authorization is mandatory if intending to fly drones in restricted areas or controlled airspace. Participants should submit their flight authorization requests to the SCAA office at least 72 hours before the planned operation date. Once registered and assigned a drone registration number, participants can complete the paper-based authorization form and send it to drones@scaa.sc.

Stay connected: The best providers for mobile data in the Seychelles are Airtel, Cable & Wireless, or Aialo. You can buy a SIM card online, at the airport, from a mobile provider or convenience store. We chose Airtel and bought our SIM card at the Seychelles International Airport (SEZ) in Mahé, but we've noticed that the prices at the airport are higher than the ones we saw while making our online arrival application.

Seychelles Electronic Border System: Make sure to complete this online application a few days before departure. Seychelles Electronic Border System (govtas.com)

HOW TO GET AROUND
La Digue

Ferries: Ferries are available for travel between the main islands. Cat Cocos operates regular ferry services between Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue. Cat Rose operates between La Digue and Praslin. Booking tickets in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons, is advisable.

- Airplane: Traveling by airplane is another option for getting between the islands in Seychelles. The national carrier, Air Seychelles, operates domestic flights connecting the main islands.

- Car Rental: Renting a car is a popular option for exploring the islands at your own pace. Several car rental companies operate in Seychelles, and you can book a car in advance or upon arrival. Remember to drive on the left side of the road.

- Buses: Public buses are an affordable way to get around Seychelles. They operate on Mahé and Praslin, with limited services on La Digue. Their routes cover most major attractions and towns. Bus schedules can be found online or at bus stops.

- Taxis: Taxis are readily available on the main islands of Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue. You can easily find them at the airport or hotels or by hailing them on the street.

- Bicycle: La Digue is a small island where bicycles are the primary mode of transportation. You can rent bicycles from various rental shops on the island and explore its beautiful beaches and attractions at your own pace - the same goes for the private Desroches Island, where the primary mode of transport is riding bicycles.

- Walking: Seychelles is known for its stunning natural beauty, and walking is a great way to explore the islands. Many attractions, especially on La Digue, are within walking distance, allowing you to enjoy the scenery and take in the local culture.

It is important to note that transportation options may vary depending on the island you are visiting. Additionally, checking the latest travel information and local regulations before planning your trip is recommended.

DAY BY DAY ITINERARY

DAY 1.

Arrival at Seychelles International Airport (SEZ), Mahé

SEZ – BEAU VALLON – approx. 13 km

After smoothly passing through passport control, we were greeted by a friendly representative from our car rental agency. With the car waiting just outside the departure gate, we quickly inspected it before setting off on our Seychelles adventure. This hassle-free start set the tone for the day ahead.

Eager to immerse ourselves in the beauty of the Seychelles, we wasted no time purchasing a SIM card from Airtel at the airport. Armed with connectivity, we made our way to our hotel, which was conveniently located on Beau Vallon Beach. However, I cannot recommend the hotel due to its unsatisfactory aspects aside from its location.

After settling into our rooms and freshening up, we battled the effects of jetlag and ventured out for an evening walk along Beau Vallon Beach. We enjoyed watching the sunset, indulged in some drinks, unfortunately, got bitten by mosquitoes, and ended the evening with an Indian cuisine meal.

BEAU VALLON BEACH

Beau Vallon Beach, Mahé

Stretching for about 3 kilometers, Beau Vallon Beach offers ample space for visitors to relax, unwind, and soak up the sun. Whether you prefer lounging on a beach chair, taking a leisurely stroll along the shore, or engaging in water sports, there is something for everyone here.

The calm and gentle waves make it an ideal spot for swimming and snorkeling. Activities such as jet skiing, paddleboarding, and kayaking are readily available for those seeking a bit more adventure.

Beau Vallon Beach is a natural wonder and a hub of activity. Along the beach, you will find various restaurants, cafés, and bars offering a range of cuisines to satisfy any palate. From fresh seafood to international delicacies, there is no shortage of dining options to choose from.

As the day comes to a close, Beau Vallon Beach transforms into a romantic setting, perfect for witnessing breathtaking sunsets. The sky is painted with orange, pink, and purple hues, creating a picturesque backdrop for a romantic evening stroll.

DAY 2.

BEAU VALLON - ANSE MAJOR – approx. 10 km

ANSE MAJOR

Anse Major, Mahé

On our adventurous journey, we decided to wake up before sunrise to ensure we would be on time to visit the breathtaking Anse Major on Mahé. We were determined to witness it firsthand before catching the ferry to La Digue.

Located on the northwestern coast of Mahé, Anse Major Beach is renowned for its remote and secluded atmosphere. Unlike other beaches on the island, it cannot be accessed by road transport.

To reach the starting point of the trail, travel by car or bus is recommended. Take bus number 21 from Victoria towards Bel Ombre and alight at Danzil. From there, follow the road for approximately 200 meters uphill. For those driving, parking spaces are available at this location.

Anse Major, Mahé

The Anse Major Hike, known as the Nature Trail, covers a 4.2-kilometer round trip. The hike typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours, although it only took us 30 minutes in one direction. The total elevation gain is 206 meters, making it an easy to moderate difficulty level.

The trail is well-marked and easy to navigate. However, it is essential to note that most of the path is exposed to the sun after 10 AM. Fortunately, some sections pass through tree cover, providing much-needed shade.

As we set off and left the car, the sky was still dark, and the air was filled with anticipation. The rain began to pour, but we didn’t let it dampen our spirits. Instead, we embraced the refreshing droplets and continued our trek.

As we walked through the lush greenery, the rain suddenly ceased, and a beautiful rainbow appeared in the sky. It felt like a sign that our journey was meant to be magical. We marveled at the vibrant colors and snapped some pictures to capture the moment.

There are two adjacent beaches – to reach your destination; you need to continue a little further after reaching the small beach. We chose to begin our journey at the renowned Anse Major, and on our way back, we passed by the small one. There, you will discover a very fun Tarzan swing and a lot of shamelessly cute little crabs walking around.

Reaching Anse Major before anyone else made this early wake-up more than worth it. The beach was untouched, and the tranquility was unmatched. It felt like we had stumbled upon a hidden paradise, far away from the bustling world. We couldn’t help but feel like modern-day Robinson Crusoes, experiencing the serenity and beauty of nature in its purest form.

After spending a blissful time at Anse Major, we reluctantly decided to leave. As we made our way back to the small neighboring beach and the car, we noticed a boat approaching with loud music and people on board. It was another way to visit Anse Major, but we were grateful for the opportunity to have experienced it without any disturbances. The best idea was to do the hike before the sun’s heat appeared. Remember to bring and drink plenty of water.

BEAU VALLON – CAT COCOS BERTH / FERRY TERMINAL – approx. 6 km

After we visited Anse Major, we headed to our hotel in Beau Vallon. We quickly gathered our luggage, checked out, and drove to the ferry terminal. We parked the rental car at the ferry parking lot and left the keys inside as we were told to do. Once we arrived at the port, we checked in our suitcases and patiently waited for the boarding process to begin. Based on our experience, I highly recommend arriving one hour in advance if you plan on taking the ferry from Mahé to La Digue or Praslin.

We took Cat Cocos speed-ferries, which offer daily services between the two islands. It is advisable to purchase tickets in advance to secure your spot on the ferry. The journey from Mahé to La Digue typically takes around one hour and a half, with a brief stop in Praslin along the way. From there, more passengers embark or leave the boat. If you tend to get seasick, it is crucial to remember to take your seasickness pills approximately one hour before the ferry departs. This precaution will help alleviate any discomfort you may experience during the journey, as, at times, the waves could become rough.

MAHÉ ISLAND – LA DIGUE ISLAND – approx. 54 km

Anse Source d'Argent, La Digue

Upon arriving at La Digue, it is important to note that there are more bicycles than cars. As a result, your hotel will provide a special vehicle service to transport you, or you can rent open-air taxis/ buggies from the Jetty. To ensure a hassle-free experience, you can also pre-book these services, and they will be waiting for you at the Jetty with your name tag.

We booked a room near the Ferry port because of its convenient location and because we didn't need to arrange any additional transfers. It was within walking distance from the Jetty. However, I would not necessarily recommend this place as it felt like a prison cell - super small, dark, cold, and uninviting.

Anse Source d'Argent, La Digue

Once we checked in, we wasted no time and immediately set out to rent bikes, which are a must on La Digue Island and the best mode of transportation. Numerous bike providers are available, but after conducting some online research, we found that the highest-rated ones were already fully booked. Nevertheless, we decided to take a chance and rented bikes without knowing their quality or condition. It all worked well.

Note that many accommodations even offer complimentary bikes. Children's seats and bicycles are also available but in more limited quantities.

We rode through quaint villages, past towering palm trees, and along winding roads that led to secluded coves and hidden beaches.

Feeling exhausted and famished, we looked for a good takeaway place that also offered some plant-based options. Our search led us to Rey & Josh Café Takeaway, where we received excellent service and had flavourful curries. This is the place if you prefer a grab-and-go option or wish to savor your meal on-site.

L’UNION ESTATE PARK – ANSE SOURCE D’ARGENT

Anse Source d'Argent, La Digue

As the day drew to a close, we went to Anse Source d'Argent to watch the sunset. L'Union Estate Park is a convenient entry point for those seeking access to this magnificent beach. For a fee (PRO TIP below), visitors are granted one-day access to the park, allowing them the flexibility to come and go as they please.

While en route to the beach, I highly recommend taking advantage of the opportunity to explore the paths within the Estate. Along the way, you will come across a small, old cemetery. Additionally, a colossal rock stands as a testament to time. Nestled around the base of this rock, you will find an enclosed group of Aldabra tortoises inhabiting the park. It is crucial to approach these gentle creatures with kindness and respect.

The bike path within the L'Union Estate Park offers a delightful experience as it meanders through fragrant vanilla groves. Finally, you will reach your ultimate destination - the awe-inspiring Anse Source d'Argent beach. Once you have securely parked your bike, cross the bridge and follow the short, enchanting path leading to the pristine shoreline.

As soon as we set foot on the beach, the sky was painted in shades of pink, orange, and purple, and the warm breeze carried the scent of frangipani flowers. We walked on the beach surrounded by stupendous granite boulders, holding hands and watching the sun dip below the horizon, feeling grateful for this magical moment.

💡PRO TIP | Entrance fee to one of the world's most beautiful and famous beaches, Anse Source d'Argent:

To gain access to Anse Source d'Argent, a fee of SCR 100 (equivalent to USD 7 or 6.5 EUR) is required, which is used for the maintenance and preservation of the beach. If you arrive after 4 PM, you will receive a bracelet granting access for the following day. This is exactly what we did, and we returned the day after.

To conclude our experience, we dined at an Italian restaurant in the Le Repaire hotel. Typically, when visiting a tropical destination with various cuisines, this wouldn't be our go-to choice. However, I must admit that it unexpectedly became our preferred dining establishment on La Digue.

DAY 3.

LA DIGUE – BEACH DAY EXPLORATION

We started the day early by making our way to Grand Anse. Like almost everything else on the island, a great way to reach this beach is by bike, as it is a short ride from the main village. It's important to note that Grand Anse is known for its powerful waves, making it more suitable for experienced swimmers and surfers.

From Grand Anse, beautiful hiking trails lead to two other stunning beaches - Petite Anse and Anse Cocos.

The hike to Petite Anse takes you through lush vegetation. It is an easy hike that takes approximately 10-15 minutes, depending on your pace. The trail to Anse Cocos takes between 20-40 minutes. After less than an hour of hiking, you'll be greeted by the secluded and pristine Anse Cocos beach, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and turquoise waters.

P.S. The trail to the three beaches starts from Grand Anse, passes through Petite Anse, and finishes at Anse Cocos.

⚠️ Be aware of dangerous currents ⚠️

CRYSTAL WATER KAYAKS – ANSE SOURCE D’ARGENT

Anse Source d'Argent, La Digue

Having further explored the island, we made our way back to Anse Source d'Argent, ensuring our entry with the bracelets we possessed. The timing couldn't have been more ideal for embracing beach relaxation, savoring delightful fresh fruit drinks, mastering the art of coconut cracking, and, above all, fulfilling my lifelong dream of kayaking in the pristine waters of La Digue. The experience was nothing short of a dream come true.

If you're planning a trip to La Digue Island, kayaking in a crystal water kayak at Anse Source d'Argent is a must-do experience. The company that I highly recommend is Crystal Clear Kayak Tours.

They offer a 3-hour guided transparent kayak tour and the option to simply rent one of these kayaks and explore on your own.

Anse Source d'Argent, La Digue

The guided tour takes you to secluded beaches and coves that are not accessible by foot, giving you a unique perspective of the area.

As you paddle through the clear waters, you can see the coral reefs and marine life beneath you. The transparent kayak makes you feel like floating on top of the water, giving you a unique perspective of the stunning scenery. The water is calm and clear, making it easy to navigate and enjoy the scenery.

You can see schools of fish swimming beneath you, as well as sea turtles and other sea creatures. The coral reefs, with their vibrant colors and intricate patterns, are also a sight to behold.

Anse Pierrot, La Digue

The Crystal Water Kayaks Team displayed exceptional kindness by taking us on a boat tour to Robinson Crusoe Island, Anse Pierrot, even after closing hours. Anse Pierrot gained fame for its connection to the iconic film Robinson Crusoe, which was released in 1954. As soon as we arrived, it became evident why this picturesque setting was selected as the film's backdrop.

Book here: Crystal Water Kayaks

Having fulfilled one of my dreams, we finished the day by dining at our beloved Italian restaurant on the island, Le Repaire.

DAY 4.

LAST MOMENTS ON LA DIGUE - ANSE PATATES

In the morning, we chose to go cycling on the northern part of La Digue Island, heading towards Anse Patates Beach. As we pedaled along, we were delighted to come across numerous Aldabra tortoises that called the island home, freely wandering and exploring their surroundings.

Anse Patates, located north on La Digue Island, is a beach that boasts beautiful palm trees, white sand, and impressive rocks, creating a picturesque setting. Despite its proximity to the Patatran Hotel, it remains relatively uncrowded. Besides being a great spot for swimming, Anse Patates is also highly recommended for snorkeling, making it a popular choice among visitors. Restrooms and restaurants can be found nearby in the surrounding hotels. It's important to note that Anse Patates lacks a reef, causing the sea to quickly become deep with solid waves. During high tide, the beach may be completely covered. Those venturing into the water should exercise caution due to the presence of currents, which can become stronger with increasing depth. This is especially important for children, who should never be left unsupervised.

Check out and hop on the ferry to Praslin Island. Arriving at the Jetty in La Digue one hour ahead of time is unnecessary, as the check-in process occurs before boarding the ferry. We opted to travel on the Cat Rose speed ferry, and the journey between the two islands typically ranges from 15 to 20 minutes.

LA DIGUE ISLAND – PRASLIN PRASLIN – approx. 11 km

PRASLIN

Praslin is the second-largest island in the Seychelles archipelago. It is renowned for its stunning beaches, lush tropical landscapes, and diverse wildlife. Praslin is often considered a paradise for nature lovers and beach enthusiasts.

One of the main attractions on Praslin is the Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This pristine forest is home to the iconic Coco de Mer palm trees, which produce the largest seeds in the plant kingdom. Visitors can explore the reserve's well-maintained trails and marvel at the unique flora and fauna, including rare bird species like the Seychelles black parrot.

Anse Lazio, Praslin

Anse Lazio and Anse Georgette are two of the most famous beaches on Praslin. Anse Lazio is often ranked among the world's best beaches, with its crystal-clear turquoise waters, powdery white sand, and picturesque granite boulders. Anse Georgette, located on the grounds of the Constance Lémuria Resort, offers a more secluded and exclusive beach experience.

Praslin also offers excellent opportunities for snorkeling and diving. The surrounding waters teem with vibrant coral reefs and rich marine life, including colorful fish, turtles, and even the occasional sighting of whale sharks.

In addition to its natural beauty, Praslin has a range of accommodations, from luxury resorts to cozy guesthouses, ensuring that visitors can find a suitable place to stay. The island also has a few local restaurants and shops where visitors can sample Creole cuisine and purchase souvenirs.

Renting a car or hiring a taxi is recommended to explore the island, as public transportation options are limited. Praslin is also well-connected to other nearby islands, making it a convenient base for further exploration of the Seychelles archipelago.

Later that day, we allowed ourselves to be transported to a state of pure bliss with a heavenly couple's massage while hearing the waves of the sea and feeling the gentle breeze on our skin. The skilled hands of expert therapists melted away any tension, leaving us feeling relaxed, rejuvenated, and deeply connected. After the fantastic couple massage, we immersed ourselves in the breathtaking beauty of the Seychelles as we indulged in a private sundowner picnic at Anse Lazio, followed by dinner at the Losean Restaurant.

DAY 5.

RAFFLES SEYCHELLES – VALLÉE DE MAI

Vallée de Mai, Praslin

Our day began with a delightful floating breakfast enjoyed in the privacy of our own pool. Following that, we embarked on a guided excursion to Vallée de Mai, one of the most renowned attractions on the island. Our knowledgeable guide gave us fascinating insights into the local flora and fauna, including the unique endemic species. We were fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of the elusive black parrot during our visit. Situated on Praslin Island, Vallée de Mai is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the natural habitat for the iconic Coco de Mer palm tree. This palm tree holds great significance in the Seychelles and is legally protected. Notably, the Coco de Mer is dioecious, meaning there are distinct male and female trees. It is renowned for producing the world's largest seed, which can weigh up to 30 kg and measure up to 50 cm in diameter.

Later that day, we had lunch at the Pool Restaurant & Bar, beach time, and dinner at the Curieuse Restaurant.

DAY 6.

CURIEUSE ISLAND AND ST. PIERRE ISLET

After a delicious breakfast at Raffles Seychelles, we were picked up by Geoli Charters for a day boat trip to Curieuse Island. This tour also includes snorkeling at different locations and a brief stop at St. Pierre islet.

Curieuse Island, located just a short boat ride from Praslin, is a small but captivating island that is part of the Seychelles Marine National Park. It is known for its pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and diverse wildlife. As we approached the island, we were greeted by lush greenery and towering palm trees, creating a picture-perfect tropical paradise.

One of the trip's highlights is the chance to encounter the giant Aldabra tortoises native to the Seychelles. These magnificent creatures can live for over a hundred years and weigh up to 227 kg (500 pounds). Guided by an experienced naturalist, we had the opportunity to observe these gentle giants in their natural habitat, learning about their behavior, feeding habits, and conservation efforts to protect their species.

In addition to the Aldabra tortoises, Curieuse Island is also home to a thriving Mangrove forest. This unique ecosystem plays a crucial role in maintaining the island's biodiversity and acts as a nursery for various marine species. As we navigated through the winding channels of the Mangrove forest, we witnessed the intricate network of roots and branches that provide shelter and sustenance for a wide range of flora and fauna.

The island's flora is equally captivating, with the endemic Coco de Mer being a particular highlight. This rare and iconic palm tree produces the largest seed in the plant kingdom and is found only in the Seychelles. Its distinctive shape and size have earned it the nickname "the love nut," and it is considered a symbol of fertility and love, but I wrote more about it above (our visit to Vallée de Mai).

During the day trip, we had the opportunity to snorkel in the amazing waters surrounding Praslin and Curieuse Island. The underwater world is teeming with vibrant coral reefs and a kaleidoscope of tropical fish, providing a mesmerizing display of colors and marine life. Snorkeling stops allowed us to explore this underwater paradise, immersing ourselves in the beauty of the Seychelles' marine ecosystem.

Lunch was served on the island.

On the way back to Praslin, we stopped at the captivating St. Pierre islet. Thanks to our drone, we stayed on the boat and admired the islet from the water and from a bird's perspective.

We were immediately struck by the unique rock formations that jutted out of the turquoise waters as we approached St. Pierre. These granite boulders created a stunning backdrop against the clear blue sky, and we couldn't help but be in awe of their natural beauty.

One of the highlights of St. Pierre islet is its unique rock formations, which the relentless waves have sculpted over time. These granite boulders create natural pools and shallow areas, perfect for exploring and observing marine life up close.

Later that day, Raffles Seychelles organized a wonderful romantic ritual in our suite – the Mandarin bath experience. The soothing scents and warm waters enveloped us, creating a moment of pure romance and connection. We finished the day with a dinner at the Pool Restaurant & Bar.

DAY 7.

Delicious breakfast at Raffles Seychelles and an early transfer to Praslin Ferry terminal. Be there half an hour in advance. We had to return to Mahé and get a domestic flight to our next destination in the Seychelles – Desroches Island.

PRASLIN ISLAND – MAHÉ ISLAND – approx. 50 km

The ferry journey connecting the two islands lasts approximately one hour. Upon reaching Mahé, we proceeded towards Seychelles International Airport. Opting for a taxi from the ferry terminal, we arrived well ahead of time at the airport. Fortunately, the airport staff, who oversee flights to Four Seasons Desroches, kindly assisted us in securing access to a lounge at a discounted rate. This lounge provides unlimited WiFi, refreshing beverages, delectable treats, and access to shower facilities.

MAHÉ ISLAND – DESROCHES ISLAND – approx. 240 km

Four Seasons Desroches

The subsequent domestic flight lasted around 35 minutes and was a delightful experience. We boarded a small plane and enjoyed breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean's turquoise waters as we made our way to Desroches Island.

Upon landing at Desroches Island's private airstrip, you'll be greeted by the resort's warm and friendly staff. They will assist you with your luggage and guide you to your villa.

The transfer to the villa is usually done via a short buggy ride.

Four Seasons Desroches

Later that day, after checking into our Ocean-view pool villa, we decided to explore the island using the provided bikes, as Desroches Island's primary vehicles are buggies and bicycles. Each villa had bikes with the guest's name and surname written on the front basket.

Have you ever had the opportunity to ride a bike on an airstrip? Well, at Four Seasons Desroches, not only is it possible, but it's also a must if you want to reach their stunning beaches.

On the way, we passed by Bombay Beach and had the opportunity to feed the Aldabra tortoises that inhabit the island.

Aquarium Beach, Desroches

We rode our bicycles to Aquarium Beach, where we enjoyed paddle boarding, relaxing on the beach, and admiring the beautiful sunset. It was a truly incredible experience to have the entire beach to ourselves.

Once we finished at the beach, we returned to our room to get ready for dinner. On the way to our villa, we continued seeing the sky changing further in one of the craziest sunsets we've ever seen. We were in for a treat as we dined at Deli Restaurant, where they served delicious Asian Izakaya cuisine. It was a whole new level of all-inclusive dining that we thoroughly enjoyed.

DAY 8.

DESROCHES ISLAND

We started our day with a delightful breakfast by the main pool before hopping on our bikes and heading to Madame Zabre beach. There, we spent the entire day enjoying various activities such as transparent kayaking, snorkeling, leisurely walks beneath the palm trees, and indulging in a fantastic beach picnic.

The Four Seasons Desroches had thoughtfully arranged a picturesque picnic setup, complete with comfortable lounging chairs, round beach towels, baskets filled with delicious food, refreshing coconut water, and parasols.

To cap off our day of beach adventures, we decided to unwind with some cocktails and dinner at The Lighthouse. Usually, this spot offers a breathtaking view of the sunset, but unfortunately, the sky was a bit stormy, and we missed out on that magical moment. Nonetheless, we still enjoyed The Lighthouse's cozy ambiance and delicious food.

DAY 9.

DESROCHES ISLAND

Four Seasons Desroches

We started the day with a cozy breakfast in our villa by the pool before embarking on a final biking tour. We made sure to bid farewell to the friendly tortoises and spent some short but quality time on our beloved beach, Madame Zabre. However, upon returning to our villa, we realized that we had forgotten the key to our room, leading Nico to return to the beach to retrieve it quickly. It turned out to be quite a workout before our long journey home. Oops, I am sorry!

Afterward, we proceeded with the check-in and boarding process for the first of three flights that would take us back home.

Gliding through a dreamland of palm trees in Seychelles, a surreal symphony of gentle breezes, rustling fronds, and the soothing sound of crashing waves creates an atmosphere where time stands still and the world fades away. Seychelles, we couldn't have imagined a better place to celebrate our engagement and pre-honeymoon.
